idle_down is a home backup device made from recycled materials. This project was for Sky, reusing the reclaimed materials from their now obsolete satellite dishes as well as the hard drives from their sky boxes to create a product that backs up pictures and data from your phone onto a hard drive when you tap it.
The satellite dishes are reused to make a steel powder from which a steel/pla 3d printing filament. From it the form of idle_down can be manufactured additively.
the shape of it is meant to welcome the contents of your pocket/bag like keys and wallet while also highlighting the beauty of FDM 3d printing. It is a tech product that does not look like one.
